2024 wrap-up, looking forward to 2025
We finished 2024 with two very different, but complementary, events.
The ACF Community Brisbane Northside group finished 2024 with two very different, but complementary, events.
Doughnut Economics - the Big Picture
Our November community conversation with
was about Doughnut Economics. For Global Donut Days 2024, the theme was local action, global connections. You can see more on the Regen Brisbane substack here.Bushcare - the Local Action
Locally, we’ve been pleased to help set up and support the new Wendon Way Bushcare group that is working to restore biodiverse planting in important platypus habitat. The group works within the official framework of Brisbane City Council and the North Brisbane Catchments group.
At their November working bee, Tony and Steven were deep in conversation while busy weeding a large patch of Polka Dot plant, a garden escapee that is far too common along creek banks. It’s a great reminder that what we plant in our gardens and how we manage our garden waste affects the entire ecosystem.
ACF Community Brisbane Northside supplied some tubestock plants, including some giveaways for participants to plant in their home gardens. The plants from Kumbartcho Community Nursery were chosen using the approved list provided by the BCC Catchment Officers.
Many thanks to Jane, Maria, Tony, Steven, Jenny, and other community members who attended on the day. Working bees will continue in 2025.
Preparing for 2025
This group is also taking a break until the new year. We’ll meet in early 2025 to reflect on the outcomes of this years activities, and decide our focus for the coming year.
In the meantime, we’ve added a thread for you to share and discuss interesting links and news relevant to our group and sustainability in Australia. It starts with three links supplied by Jenny. Have a look and see what you think.
